Frequently Asked Questions
When are club tryouts?
Tryouts are unique, as we tryout after season officially ends for all teams. We typically tryout early July and dates vary based on the end of Girls' Junior National Championships. Keep in mind that it is ALWAYS wise to be present for age group tryouts to help with accurate team placement. There are special situations for early evaluations; however, we can not place early evaluations until the day of their age group tryouts. We ONLY contact early tryout players that made a club team.
How are tryouts evaluated?
We treat every tryout as a new beginning. We keep an open mind to new players and returning players, as we are always trying to reevaluate age groups to be better and more competitive.
We evaluate positions by skill sets, coachability, attitude, effort, and performance in a game like setting. We have coaches in the age groups, as well as directors, evaluating the players to so teams can be formed that day.
Teams are announced at the end of the tryout and that is when paperwork, deposits, and gear try ons are conducted.
When is club season?
Club season officially begins in mid-November or after school seasons end for high school age players. We usually take the week before Thanksgiving to have 1 initial team practice and take the following week off for the holiday and start official practices the week after Thanksgiving.
Season ends for local and semi travel teams at the end of April. *11's age group will wrap up at the end of March.
Travel teams end mid June - early July due to Nationals. *18's age group will wrap up at the end of March, if they do not qualify for Nationals. If they qualify, they will participate in GJNC at the end of April. This is additional to season and will be paid for seperately from main season.
What goes on between club tryouts and November?
Players typically shift their focus towards their school seasons during this time. We do offer programs up at the facility for all age groups during the late summer and fall months. We offer lessons, skills, camps, and league opportunities. This is an open time for players inside and outside of our volleyball club.
How much does it cost to play?
Club dues range, depending on Age and Level of Play. We offer Local Only teams, Semi-Travel (in state/ limited travel) teams, and Travel teams.
11's teams have 8 tournaments based in the Houston area only. They practice twice a week and have 2 coaches.
Local teams have 10 tournaments based in the Houston area only. They also practice twice a week and have 1 coach.
Semi travel teams have 10 tournaments based in Houston and a few within the state. They also practice twice a week and have 1 coach.
18s teams have 8 tournaments with travel included. They practice three times a week and have 2 coaches.
Travel teams have 12 tournaments and they play a few tournaments in Houston, in state, and out of state. These teams attend a National Championship in the summer and practice 3 times a week with 2 coaches.
Prices for these teams range from *11s $3,300-$5,500 (We do collect an upfront deposit of $700 for all other teams, which is part of the total fee). The remaining balance is broken up into monthly payments and set up with our club finance manager.
Our Developmental teams are a great way to introduce or further your younger players in a competitive environment. We offer our Stellar Stars Program to compete in 6 tournaments starting in December and running through April. Our Stars practice 1 time a week with 1 head coach for $1,000 total. This is a whole season developmental program again Dec.-April.
How do we sign up for tryouts?
We announce our summer programs and tryouts around Spring Break on our website and social media sites. There will be a submission form for any area player to register for. There is a small fee to tryout with us and it is non-refundable. You will receive an invoice by email to pay the tryout fee. Once your player is registered with us, we will keep an up to date data base to communicate out important information as we get closer to summer.
How difficult is it to make a team if you're new to Stellar?
We keep an open mind to anyone wanting to tryout with us. We know it can be scary to tryout somewhere you're not familiar with, so we try to keep it as neutral as possible during the summer. We believe that anyone has a shot at the team they want to make, as long as they're present at our tryouts. Please keep in mind that this is a competitive time for all players and nothing can be promised (and won't be promised!) We want ALL players to attend tryouts and earn their spot on a team.
All and all, we just want people to feel happy and comfortable with their decisions. This is about finding the right fit for the players and families!
Where do Stellar teams practice?
All of our practices are at our home facility. We are conviently located directly off Beltway 8 and Fairmont Parkway. We share a building and parking lot with Urban Air. Click here for a map!
